I'm excited for our Fluid Power Conference & Expo, which is slated for Oct. 25-26, right here in my hometown of Cleveland! Even better yet, it's at the Crowne Plaza right next to our offices.

This is the sixth year of our event, but it's my first time in a few years attending one. Having my daughter almost two years ago meant that I missed a few events but I'm looking forward to meeting new exhibitors, new speakers, and new attendees!

New this year are two keynote addresses to open both conference days. The event will be kicked off on Tuesday by John Treharn, Vice President Business Development – Hydraulics Group, Parker Hannifin Corp., Cleveland. Treharn’s keynote, “Hydraulics: The Rebirth of a Mature Technology,” will highlight some of the newest technology coming to fruition in the field of fluid power. Some of these advances encompass sophisticated electronic controls and hybrid drives, while others involve more “mature” technology, such as hose assemblies and leakage prevention.

The mid-conference keynote on Wednesday morning will be given by CFC Solar’s Robert J . (Bob) Sheaf. Sheaf will cover the hot topic “Designing More Energy Efficient System,” and will offer tips on improving energy efficiency in fluid power systems without sacrificing performance. He’ll cover pumps and controls, prime movers, valves, line sizing, actuators, and even some little known tricks of the trade. His presentation will cover hydraulics and pneumatics in both stationary and mobile equipment.

A variety of one-hour training sessions will be held throughout the conference, including:

• Designing Hydraulic Circuits with HyDraw CAD, presented by Yudi Raina of Vest Inc. (Sponsored by Vest Inc.

• Integrating Electronics with Hydraulic Valves & Manifolds, presented by Russell Tackett of HcT (Sponsored by Hydrotech Inc.)

• Hydraulic System Diagnostics, presented by Bob Sheaf, CFC-Solar (Sponsored by Webster)

• Energy Savings with Pneumatics, presented by Phil O’Neil of Bosch Rexroth (Sponsored by Hydrotech Inc.)

• Continuing Evolution and Design of Hydraulic Valves, presented by Jon Frey of Bosch Rexroth (Sponsored by Hydrotech Inc.)

• Avoiding Pitfalls of Design Mistakes, presented by Bob Sheaf

• Tips and Tricks for Circuit Design, presented by Bob Sheaf

• Troubleshooting and Circuit Analysis Part 1

• Troubleshooting and Circuit Analysis Part 2

Throw in free breakfast, lunch and a cocktail hour on the show floor and the networking opportunities to meet fluid power manufacturers are limitless.

Exhibitors include Faster, Lynch Fluid Controls, Vest Inc., Fluid Power Society, Webster Instruments, Dura-Bar, HydroTech, Western Fluidyne, CFC-Solar, and more.

I hope to see many of you there! I'm looking forward to this great event and hope you are too!
