New Technology Developments for Mobile Equipment Electrification
The push to electrify construction equipment, forklifts and a range of other heavy-duty mobile machinery over the last several years has necessitated a variety of technological developments.
In this excerpt from Power & Motion’s webinar "Technological Opportunities and Challenges in the Electrification Market", Silvain Fauriaux, Global Market Director – Forklift Truck and Electrical Vehicles Market at Regal Rexnord, and Stefan Eichler, Senior Manager, Editron Sales, EMEA, Danfoss Power Solutions, discuss the technological developments their respective companies have undertaken for electric vehicles in the heavy equipment industry.
Fauriaux said that there is an increasing need to convert from hydraulic to electric solutions in some cases such as for braking systems. Regal Rexnord recognized this need as machines began to electrify and so brought to market an electric brake system capable of replacing the hydraulic versions used previously.

Danfoss on the other hand, develops both electric and hydraulic solutions for electric vehicles because hydraulics will still be required in many mobile equipment applications, particularly larger machines.
For these larger machine applications for which electrification is often a challenge, Eichler said Danfoss has developed a solution to connect machines to a grid without needing to use a battery. “This enables really big machines with high power demands, 300 and 400 kW, to run on electric [power] with zero emissions and zero noise,” he said.
