Presentations during AISTech will provide insight on the latest in ironmaking, steelmaking, and the technologies used.AISTech offers special events and presentations during the show. The first presentation on, May 5, is the Brimacombe Memorial Lecture. Keynote speaker David K. Matlock, University Emeritus Professor, Colorado School of Mines, will discuss university and industry partnerships in the steel industry. Next is the International Alliance Lecture with Jiang Li, chief market analyst, Baosteel. Her presentation is “The Challenges of the Chinese Steel Industry.”

The President’s Awards Breakfast is held on May 6. AIST president Terry G. Fedor II, Cliffs Natural Resources, will host. Mark D. Millett, president and CEO, Steel Dynamics Inc., will present at the breakfast ways to make money in the steel industry.
A town-hall forum titled “Steel 2014: Building a Pipeline to the Future” will be held May 7. A panel of seven top steel-industry executives will address challenges and opportunities relevant to today’s steel industry. Topics for discussion include new technologies, global and regional overcapacity, market development for steel applications, and more.
Plant tours are also offered during the show. The tours give a firsthand look into the iron and steel factory processes, and an opportunity to see the technology in action. The three plants are Nucor Steel — Indiana, ArcelorMittal Burns Harbor, and Steel Dynamics Inc. — Engineered Bar Products Division. Tickets for the tours are limited and can be purchased upon registration for AISTech.
