When we were at Eaton's Distributor Meeting a couple weeks ago, we were told by several of the market leaders we met with that emerging markets would be key to the company's product growth, especially in larger mobile machinery as they continue to build and develop new infrastructure. More mature markets, such as the U.S., will continue to see more growth in small machinery, such as compact excavators.

So it was good news last week to hear that Eaton made its first significant win in China with XCMG Group of Jiangsu Province, China, the country’s leading construction machinery producer, which has selected Eaton components for its first vibratory compactors with hydraulic transmissions.

Each hydraulic transmission will be equipped with an Eaton hydrostatic heavy-duty variable pump and motor rated at peak pressures of 6960 psi (480 bar). XCMG’s satisfaction with Eaton pumps, steering units and valves on other XCMG equipment prompted the OEM to rely on Eaton Hydraulics Greater China, based in Shanghai, for pumps and motors to manage power on its next-generation vibratory compactors.

Eaton won the business based on the power density of its heavy-duty pumps and motors, as well as on Eaton’s exacting global alignment with XCMG’s parts supply requirements, which included local manufacturing, multiple production sources for key hydraulic components, application expertise and a global service network.

“XCMG’s business marks Eaton’s first significant heavy-duty pump and motor win in the China vibratory compactor platform, making it a milestone achievement,” said Wei Tian, Eaton China sales manager. “Since XCMG is number one in the China construction machinery market and among the top 10 players in the industry’s world market, its use of Eaton pumps and motors will be highly regarded by competitive OEMs both in China and around the world.”
