Underground mining equipment report available

Sept. 17, 2012
Just in time for MINExpo 2012 A new 45-page report from IntierraRMG provides an analysis of the mobile equipment market, the hard rock mining industry and cross-related ore production by region, mineral, scale and operational distribution. Dubbed the "Underground-Mining Mobile Equipment Report," it was researched and written jointly by Stockholm-based Raw Materials Group (RMG) and The Parker Bay Co. of the US.

Just in time for MINExpo 2012, a new 45-page report from IntierraRMG provides an analysis of the mobile equipment market, the hard rock mining industry and cross-related ore production by region, mineral, scale and operational distribution. Dubbed the "Underground-Mining Mobile Equipment Report," it was researched and written jointly by Stockholm-based Raw Materials Group (RMG) and The Parker Bay Co. of the US.

The goal was to understand which models are present in which part of the world; discover how equipment differs from mine size, ore shape, and geographic location; identify new business opportunties; and determine market challenges.

In the report, RMG and Parker Bay examine five categories of mobile equipment:
• Wheel Loaders/LHDs (which comprise the largest single product group with almost 12,000 units in production)
• Mining Trucks (which is second, with 7500 units)
• Development Drills (7200 units)
• Production Drills (app. 2000 units)
• Bolters (app. 2000 units)

Researchers gathered the material over a two-year period, with a conclusion that Atlas Copco and
Sandvik are the clear market leaders, each with over a one-third share of the sector. Caterpillar has a significant share of the LHD and truck markets, making it the most viable competitor to the two leaders, with the other equipment suppliers being mostly regional and niche players.

The report draws on a database of the world's largest 950 underground hard-rock mines. Equipment data is available for half of these operations, and the report identifies approximately one-third of the mobile equipment being used in the world's underground hard-rock mines. Supporting data on mineral production is taken from the RMG database that covers global metal output.

Printed copies of the Underground-Mining Mobile Equipment Report will be available for viewing during MINExpo International at the booths of IntierraRMG (booth 1478), Parker Bay (23187) and E&MJ (booth 1665).

To enquire about pre-purchasing the report and its supporting data, contact Natalia Tyblewska at +44 (0)20 7780 7470, or email [email protected]. Readers who mention "MinExpo 2012" will receive a 10 percent discount.
