50+ years of continuing education

This issue of Hydraulics & Pneumatics commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Designer's Guide to Fluid Power Products.

This issue of Hydraulics & Pneumatics commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Designer's Guide to Fluid Power Products. Our editors take great pride in presenting you the most comprehensive, complete, and useful guide to fluid power products found in print anywhere. The guide is also available on our website, at www.hydraulicspneumatics.com.

50 years ago, our predecessors sought to present the readers of Hydraulics & Pneumatics with a guide to fluid power component manufacturers that was helpful to engineers for finding who makes what in fluid power. In a very short time, it became an important tool that helped define the fluid power industry. We thank the many manufacturers of fluid power components who have contributed to the Designer's Guide over the 50-year period.

Our mission is to provide you, the reader, with the most useful and most interesting fluid power information possible every month. I like to think of each issue of the magazine as another installment in a continuing education delivered right to your mailbox (or your e-mail inbox if you're one of our many digital subscribers). Our Designer's Guide is an integral part of that information offering, with engineering guidelines on over 50 fluid power component categories.

I am honored to have been recently appointed publisher of Hydraulics & Pneumatics . It gives me great pride and quite a sense of responsibility to take my place in a rather short list of publishers who have preceded me. I have learned a lot from each of the previous publishers who have guided this great magazine over the years, and I am very appreciative of their leadership in bringing Hydraulics & Pneumatics to the position that it holds today as the best fluid power information source available.

Our staff faces a very interesting challenge today in guiding the magazine in the early stages of the Information Age — as we integrate our message in-print, on-line, and in-person. In addition to the monthly printed version of the magazine, we offer an excellent website, a monthly e-newsletter, webcasts, and now the Fluid Power Expo. All of these vehicles of information are designed to bring the most useful information available to the readers and e-media users who make up our current community.

We gladly accept this challenge and commit to bring our readers the high level of technical information coupled with insightful engineering ideas not only every month in print but constantly online. Our editors and I are very interested to know how you feel about our magazine and our e-media products. I personally would be very interested in hearing from you on how we can better serve you. Please feel free to e-mail me your thoughts.

We plan to keep the Designer's Guide and Hydraulics & Pneumatics at the forefront of fluid power knowledge and information for a long time to come. Thank you for reading!
