Accumulators are common for assisting braking in heavy overthe-road vehicles. The standard design requires that accumulators be recharged with pressurized oil after braking. Although charge valves have existed for decades, Sterling Hydraulics, Elk Grove Village, Ill., came up with a new approach. Sterling's accumulator charge valve system consists of two cartridge valves that can be built into a dedicated charge valve block or integrated with other hydraulic functions, such as steering, dump functions,or a hydraulic fan drive. In addition to this modular mounting advantage, the charge valve offers reliable unload and reload performance, smooth operation void of pressure spikes, consistent operation over a wide range of temperatures, and adjustable scan setting.
