Sun Hydraulics Corp. introduced a new way to configure embedded amplifiers without using a PC or wired connections. The new version of Sun’s Embedded Amplifier series can be configured via an iOS or Android app using Bluetooth for quick, easy, reliable wireless calibration.
“This Bluetooth embedded amplifier represents a major advance in the fluid power industry,” said Allen Carlson, President and CEO at Sun Hydraulics, Sarasota, Fla. “Wireless configuration from a smart device maintains noise-emission compliance and is going to find its way into a broad range of applications where cost, reliability, and ease of use are critical.”
This development in cartridge valves means that technicians can now be in within 30 ft of as machine to observe its operation but remain untethered—and, therefore, safe—when setting up and calibrating machine operation. Setup is via a Sun Hydraulics app, AmpSet Blue, designed for the iOS and Android operating systems and available for free from Apple’s App Store and for Android from Sun’s website.
AmpSet Blue lets users locate and pair with the selected amplifier using their smart device and adjust all parameters of the proportional controller through several simple screens. Users can name each device and save, store, recall, and share settings for future use.
Configuring without wires means relying only on a phone that’s already in your pocket. The technology should prove especially beneficial for multi-valve systems and hard-to-reach or dangerous environments, where the app can pair with the Bluetooth embedded amplifier from as far away as 30 ft away. It eliminates the need to carry a separate programmer or laptop and special cables into a hazardous environment.
Password protection prevents unauthorized access to the amplifiers. Added safety os provided by a “connection time-out” feature, which is activated by a period of non-use to prevent the user from leaving the application open and paired.
The controller is CE and RoHS compliant, sealed to IP69K, encapsulated for harsh environmental usage, and has enhanced diagnostic LEDs that give real-time operational status.
