A sampling of product types that will be available from new filtration company Western Technical Filter.

Currently, Sheffield says WTF will distribute a variety of filters, elements, and kits,  particularly from Main Filter U.S.A., which he helped get up and running as the American counterpart to the Canadian company. Before opening WTF, he was vice president and general manager of Main Filter US, Lincolnton, N.C.

Sheffield’s expertise lies in oil reclamation services. He has specialized in filtration technology for hydraulic systems since 1984. He is an active member in key organizations that support performance improvement and industry issues, including the National Fluid Power Association, Society of Automotive Engineers, and standard development committees for the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), including ISO TC/131/SC6 for Contamination Control.

Sheffield said he wants to take filtration to a whole new level. “What I really want to do is be the end-users technical representative, and be the guy that gives them an answer,” Sheffield said. “Even if we can’t provide you with the filtration services you need, we will point you in the right direction.

Sheffield just launched WTF’s website, which includes a product search by original equipment manufacturer or WTF model number, a cross-reference section which allows users to submit data for unknown filter models, data on ISO requirements and cleanliness codes, and a fun section highlighting critical questions filter users need to ask when specifiying filters and elements — The WTF Question Center, which says “Sometimes you need to ask WTF?”

For those who love the name, T-shirts are available for purchase.
