Problem — A manufacturer of high-performance stump cutters and other site-preparation equipment designed a prototype unit but was concerned that three separate hose assemblies connecting the hydraulic attachments to the cab body had too much slack and could become dislodged while the unit was operating.

Solution — After analyzing application parameters, it was decided that the best option to streamline the machine would be design and install a kit assembly that used SAE hydraulic tubing for stability and shorter hose assemblies to maintain flexibility.

Result — Although the build cost increased, the improvement aftermarket serviceability was dramatic. In fact, estimates show that a one-time replacement of the hose assembly under the old design would have cost more than the new kit assembly design.

The tube assemblies improved the prototype in three key aspects: lower repair costs, improved safety, and easier serviceability.
