OTC 2022 Prepares to Bring Energy Industry Back to Houston

March 25, 2022
The Offshore Technology Conference will bring together over 2,000 exhibitors and more than 59,000 offshore energy professionals.

The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) 2022 is set to bring energy professionals together May 2-5 in Houston, Tex. Among the many exhibitors and attendees will be several fluid power companies which serve the oil & gas industry.

According to event organizers, there will be over 2,000 exhibitors and more than 59,000 offshore energy professionals in attendance at the 2022 event. Nine panel sessions and over 350 technical presentations will provide additional opportunities to learn about the latest technology and trends within this market.

Presentations this year include keynotes on the transition to sustainable energy, a panel discussion on the future of oil and gas development, advancements in drilling technology and more.

As with any trade show—and OTC 2022 being a return to a fully in-person event after going hybrid in 2021—there will likely be a number of product launches for the oil & gas industry.

OTC Honors Industry Experts, New Technologies

In the run up to the show, organizers have announced winners for two of its awards—the 2022 Distinguished Achievement Awards and 2022 Spotlight on New Technology Award. Winners of the former will be honored during the OTC Distinguished Achievement Awards Event Reception held May 1.

Three Distinguished Achievement Awards will be given out. Drew Michel will receive the award for Individuals for his work on improving driver safety through the development of Remotely Operated Vehicles. He is also being honored for his efforts to encourage younger generations to study math, science and pursue careers in marine technology.

The OTC Distinguished Achievement Award for Companies, Organizations, and Institutions will be presented to Shell for its Appomattox Project. This project is currently the company’s largest and most complex deepwater megaproject and is intended to provide safe and sustainable energy delivery for the U.S. for decades.

According to OTC, new technology was developed for the project to help minimize its environmental footprint. Use of a combined cycle power generation system reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 30%. A 40% smaller cooling system was developed as well because of the ability to use cold seawater from 600 m below the surface. Utilizing these technologies helps to minimize the impacts on marine life in the Gulf of Mexico where the project is located.

A Heritage Award will also be given to Roland Moreau for his efforts to collect, analyze and share data to help create a safer industry. He will be recognized for his four decades of experience and contributions to enhancing understanding of the offshore oil industry by government bodies.

The Spotlight on New Technology Award is presented to exhibitors at the show who OTC states are “revolutionizing the future of offshore energy through technological advancement and innovation.” Fourteen companies were recognized, half of which were small businesses.

Recipients were chosen based on the following criteria:

  • novelty in the marketplace;
  • level of innovation;
  • demonstrated success;
  • broad commercial appeal;
  • and ability to make a significant impact across the offshore industry.
