New Mencom MIXO Right-Angle Connectors Provide Space Savings

Sept. 6, 2022
The MIXO right-angle high-current rectangular connector modules feature a 90-degree connection to minimize bending of large diameter wires.

Mencom Corp. has introduced the MIXO right-angle high-current rectangular connector modules, model name CX-01YA. The connectors have a compact 90-degree connection which helps to minimize installation space when integrating power systems and associated assemblies.

Key features include:

  • 90-degree connection removes bending of large diameter wires (up to 70 mm2)
  • ensures reliable 200A rating performance
  • special insulating cover plate prevents accidental contact between cable lugs on adjacent modules
  • compatible with standard bulkhead mounting housings.

Further Technical Details

According to Mencom, the special insulating cover plate included on the MIXO right-angle connectors offers multiple benefits. It can save the nominal voltage rating of 1000V planned for the 200A modules while connecting the DIN 46235 pre-insulated crimp cable lugs the company states in its press release announcing the launch of the connectors.

The connector's ability to eliminate bending of large wires due to its 90-degree connection will benefit use with high-power modules in the current range of 70-200A. Mencom notes these large wires can be difficult to handle because of how thick they are which reduces their bend radius, often causing floor space in a facility to be taken up. Not only does this clutter the space but it can also cause safety issues.

In What Applications Can This be Used?

Mencom says it introduced the new MIXO right-angle high-current connectors to help meet the needs of the fast-growing energy transition market demanding flexible high-power capabilities. This industry requires integration of power systems and associated assemblies to be secure, cost-effective and space-saving; all aspects which the company looks to provide with the connector.

Additional use cases for the connector include extending a busbar connection or powering control cabinets, HVAC systems and batteries for energy storage backup.
