Festo has developed an AI-based app that enables continuous monitoring of pneumatic drives and cylinders, AX Motion Insights Pneumatic. It utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to detect anomalies in the behavior of pneumatic components without the need for additional sensors. 

By monitoring for wear and performance anomalies, the app enables machine owners to be more proactive about addressing potential maintenance issues before they cause unplanned downtime which can be costly for an operation.

Features of AX Motion Insights Pneumatic include:

  • providing a “health score” as a “risk of failure” indicator for each cylinder
  • connectivity via a PLC (programmable logic controller) function block
  • compatible with actuators from different manufacturers
  • connectivity details for Siemens, Rockwell, and Beckhoff controllers
  • ability to schedule tasks in advance to reduce risk of unexpected downtime
  • allows on-premises computing so end users have full control over their data and deployment
