Pneumatics Shipments Approaching a Plateau

Sept. 13, 2022
NFPA's latest data shows shipments for pneumatics began to approach a plateau in July 2022 while hydraulics and total fluid power continued to grow.

According to the latest data from the National Fluid Power Association (NFPA), shipments for pneumatic components have begun to plateau in July 2022. The 12-month moving average shows that while pneumatics shipments are slowing, those for hydraulics and total fluid power continue to grow.

NFPA reports total fluid power shipments in July 2022 reached 15.2%. This is similar to the previous month's data which showed the June 2022 shipments at 15.5%

Orders for mobile hydraulics received from August 2021 to July 2022 are at 116.7% of those received during the previous period (August 2020 to July 2021), demonstrating continued strength for this market segment.

Although was reported again in July, NFPA does note that the raw index data shows pneumatic, mobile and industrial hydraulic shipments decreased compared to June. It is likely too soon to determine an exact cause for this decrease; it could be related to seasonal performance or a general trend toward slower growth which has been predicted by many economists for the later part of 2022

NFPA's monthly fluid power order and shipment data is collected from over 80 hydraulics and pneumatics manufacturers as part of the NFPA’s Confidential Shipment Statistics (CSS) program.
