Fluid-Power Products Shipments Increase From 2012

March 3, 2014

The latest data published by the National Fluid Power Association shows industry shipments of mobile hydraulic, industrial hydraulic, and pneumatic products increased 8.1% for December 2013 compared to December 2012, and decreased compared to the previous month. The charts and table shown here are drawn from data collected from more than 80 manufacturers of fluid-power products by NFPA’s Confidential Shipment Statistics (CSS) program. Much more information is available to NFPA members, which allows them to better understand trends and anticipate change in their market and the customer markets they serve.

Pneumatic, Mobile and Industrial Hydraulic Orders Index

Each point on this graph represents the most recent 12 months of orders compared to the previous 12 months of orders. Each point can be read as a percentage. For example, 92.3 (the November 2013 level of the industrial hydraulic series) indicates that industrial hydraulic orders received from December 2012 to November 2013 were 92.3% of the orders received from December 2011 to November 2012. (Base Year 2008 = 100)

Total- Hydraulic and Pneumatic Shipments

This graph of 12-month moving averages shows that in December 2013, both pneumatic and hydraulic shipments increased. (Base Year 2008= 100)

Shipments – Cumulative year-to-date % change (2013 versus 2012)

The table above is expressed in terms of cumulative percent changes. These changes refer to the percent difference between the relevant cumulative total for 2013 and the total for the same months in 2012. For example, the November pneumatic shipments value of -1.4 means that for the calendar year through November 2013, pneumatic shipments were down 1.4% compared to the same time period in 2012. (Base Year 2008 = 100)
