January’s report from the National Fluid Power Association offered a mixed bag of news to start 2020. While product shipments rose 16.4% compared from December 2019, shipments were down 11.5% compared to January 2019.
Industrial hydraulic and mobile hydraulic shipments remained well below the NFPA Index benchmark of 100, as did total pneumatic shipments, although all three indexes rose in January. Pneumatic shipments in January 2020 were about 96.5% of what they were in January 2019, according to the index.
In 2019, orders for fluid power products were at about 85% of what they were for the same period in 2018, and shipments for all fluid power products declined in January 2020.
