Husco Addresses Market Needs with New Steer-by-Wire System
Husco developed its GenSteer technology to help meet a need it saw in the off-highway equipment market for steer-by-wire systems. Although these systems exist, many of them are complex and costly which has prevented many equipment manufacturers from adopting the technology.
In this interview with Power & Motion, Ben Holter, Product Director at Husco, explains that Husco began development of its own steer-by-wire system after a major OEM customer approached the company because it was unhappy with the systems currently in the market.
So, Husco began to research what was available and what it could do differently to bring a less expensive and complex option to construction equipment, agricultural machinery and other mobile off-highway applications.
Interest in using steer-by-wire has steadily grown over the last several years because OEMs and their customers desire features such as haptic feedback, auto guidance, variable steer ratios and more. In addition, steer-by-wire is an enabling technology for autonomous operation, something OEMs are implementing more to help overcome the labor challenges many of their customers face.
Watch our interview with Holter above to learn more about why Husco developed its GenSteer steer-by-wire system and how he sees it potentially benefiting uptake of these systems in the mobile off-highway equipment market.
