The Hub

A “USB” Hub for Lubrication

Sept. 7, 2017
The Hub from Luneta provides centralized oil level monitoring without the expense of sophisticated automated electronic systems.

Keeping track of hydraulic fluid and lubricating oil levels in large machines usually requires a technician navigating around a machine, viewing a sight glass at each reservoir, and noting results on a clipboard or handheld device. A high-tech approach would be to equip each reservoir with some sort of transducer that would send results to a central processor with wireless communication. Although this solution may be the most practical in the long run, it requires a substantial initial investment, making it impractical for many manufacturing plants.

Luneta LLC, Tulsa, Okla., offers a solution that provides centralized oil level monitoring without the expense of sophisticated automated electronic systems. The Hub is a multiport adapter that a user connects to oil level sight glasses, drain valves, quick connects for attaching filtration equipment or taking fluid samples, etc. In addition to four lateral ports, the Hub features a recessed oil sampling port to prevent inadvertent impacts. It is intended for equipment with limited or inaccessible fluid port locations.

The Hub is designed for easy installation with zinc-plated-steel back-plate that threads easily into a reservoir port. An aluminum body slides onto the back plate and can be adjusted at 45-deg. intervals for convenient viewing. It comes with a 12-in. long, ¼-in. pilot tube with two 1-in. and two ¾-in. NPT lateral ports and protective caps for when the Hub is not in use. Versions are also available with BSPP ports and 1¼- and 1½-in. NPT lateral ports.
