Eaton Corp.’s Hydraulics Operations, Eden Prairie, Minn., has introduced Valvoline and Eaton’s Premium Hydraulic Fluid. It is the first anti-wear, high-performance hydraulic fluid by a major manufacturer of hydraulic equipment in collaboration with a fluids manufacturer.

The new fluid is a blend of proprietary additives and selected mineral base stocks that is intended primarily for industrial applications. It offers high wear and rust protection for extended equipment life and service intervals.

“Reliability in hydraulic systems begins with quality oil,” said Doug Jahnke, Eaton product marketing manager, filtration and fluids. “Eaton has worked with oil companies over the years to help them improve their products, and decided it was time to put our knowledge to work with a product of our own.”

Jahnke said the product went through rigorous testing by Eaton with its own hydraulic components, including the Vickers35VQ25 pump test specification, hose testing with various compounds used in Aeroquip and Weatherhead hydraulic hose assemblies, and laboratory testing.

“The decision to use a standard base stock rather than an expensive synthetic base was made early on in the development process,” Jahnke noted, “because a standard base will provide all the performance required in all standard industrial applications — as long as it is blended with the right additive package.”

Valvoline and Eaton’s Premium Hydraulic Fluid is produced in ISO 32, ISO 46, and ISO 68 viscosities.
