Nearly three years ago, I was lucky enough to attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering's professional training courses, taking a week-long "Introduction to Hydraulics" class. I had worked at H&P for three years already at that point, but that class was invaluable for my education because I am not an engineer by training.

So I speak from experience when I say that the classes are well-done, informative and very helpful, to both beginners like me and engineers and designers who might need to brush up on their fluid power terminology.

Registration deadlines are looming for two upcoming courses — Electrohydraulic Components and Systems and Introduction to Hydraulics.

The electrohydraulic course is slated for Sept. 12-16 (registration deadline for cost savings is this Friday, August 12). This 32-hour seminar is designed to cover the knowledge of the electrohydraulic components including solenoid operated valves, proportional valves, servo valves and amplifiers. The seminar also covers the design technicalities and in-field tuning of open-loop and closed-loop electrohydraulic systems. The state-of-the-art Universal Fluid Power Trainer, built by the class instructor, Dr. Medhat Khalil, is used to demonstrate the theory presented.

The introductory course is slated for Oct. 3-7 and only three seats remain. Special savings deadline ends Sept. 3. This 32-hour seminar is designed to acquaint individuals with the fluid power field and provide a practical working knowledge of the industry. This program features laboratory sessions where participants will gain practical experience working with actual fluid power components and systems. Specifically, laboratory sessions will treat the disassembly, inspection and assembly of individual components, as well as system design examples.
