NFPA Calls for Volunteers to Review FIRST-Participants' Scholarship Applications

March 28, 2017
Applications for the NFPA's Robotics Competition Scholarship are being accepted until May 1. The organization is also looking for volunteers to review apps in May and June.

In support of the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) mission, the National Fluid Power Association (NFPA) will award its merit-based Robotics Challenge Scholarship to a high school senior participating in the 2017 FIRST Robotics Competition. As applications continue to come in, the NFPA calls on fluid-power professionals to volunteer in the review process.

The Robotics Challenge Scholarship awards $10,000 per year to a student enrolled in an engineering course of study at any accredited United States tech school, college, or university over four years. Volunteers will be needed for screening and to read through essay submissions. Volunteers should be able to put in about 10 hours of work through the May and June 2017 review period. Participation will take place mostly online and via conference calls.

The NFPA also extends an invitation for volunteers to support the younger generation in fluid power by joining the Middle and High School Education Committee. Volunteers should be passionate about supporting NFPA programs like the Fluid Power Challenge that are aimed toward increasing middle-school and high-school students' interest in fluid power. The committee meets via conference call a few times a year.

Those interested in volunteering to review scholarship applications or becoming a member of the Education Committee should contact Lynn Beyer at [email protected] or (414) 778-3364.
