Eaton Electronic Differential Pressure Sensor Detects Clogs in Filters
Eaton's Filtration Division has developed the VS6 electronic differential pressure sensor, a clogging indicator for hydraulic and lubrication oil filters.
Key features of the sensor include:
- visual indication of filter status
- dust and splash-proof stainless-steel housing
- protection class of IP67
- operating pressures of up to 6,000 psi (420 bar).
Sensor Provides Filter Status for Improved Maintenance
The VS6 pressure sensor continuously measures the differential pressure within hydraulic and lubrication oil filters. By doing so, machine owners can more easily monitor the status of their filters and be proactive with maintenance when required.
Any contimatination that gets into hydraulic oil or lubricant can cause major performance issues, leading to costly unplanned downtime. The sensor features an M12 connector with LEDs to provide a visual indication of filter status, making it easy to determine if a filter should be replaced.

Not only can this help to reduce unplanned downtime, but also ensure the filter is only replaced when needed which lowers operating costs and waste as will not be replaced before the end of its working life.
“By using the 4…20mA analog signal of the VS6 sensor, users can more accurately predict the service life of filter elements to replace them in time,” explained Simone Ortner, Hydraulic Filtration Engineering Manager of Eaton’s Filtration Division.
Another feature of the VS6 pressure sensor is its cold start suppression function up to 37 F (25 C). This capability supresses pressure peaks during cold starts, helping to assure continued machine performance.
The sensor works with most Eaton hydraulic filtration systems and is durably designed for use in a range of applications.
