Servopneumatic control simplifies linear positioning

Oct. 5, 2012
Handling heavy loads while quickly and accurately following a changing input is accomplished with the S2 Servo Pneumatic Proportional Control System from Enfield Technologies — an all-in-one pneumatic package which combines sophisticated control algorithms, electronics, and mechanical components into one package. Speeds up to 100 in./sec can be attained while slowing the cylinder to a smooth controlled stop, preventing premature cylinder wear and damage. The S2 can handle loads to 100 lb at controlled speeds of 25 in./sec.

Handling heavy loads while quickly and accurately following a changing input is accomplished with the S2 Servo Pneumatic Proportional Control System from Enfield Technologies — an all-in-one pneumatic package which combines sophisticated control algorithms, electronics, and mechanical components into one package.

The S2 can be paired with any cylinder brand and standard analog position sensors. Click on image for larger view.

An advanced control algorithm uses a cascaded control system with both position and pressure feedback, while an integrated controller eliminates external wiring between the valve and electronics. A single 5-pin M8×1 connector allows for one cable to carry signals back to the electrical cabinet.
The S2 has a directional control valve with an on-board closed-loop controller, high efficiency valve driver, and sensors to measure differential pressure in the cylinder.

It is compatible with double-acting non-repairable cylinders, ISO and tie rod cylinders, grippers and other end effectors, and vane or rack-and-pinion rotary cylinders. It can be paired with standard analog position sensors.

The product costs less and is smaller than electric drives that offer the same load capacity. It also prevents heat build-up and requires less space.

Other features include easy tuning, setup and wiring; and low air consumption from a range of input pressures.
