At the top of today’s newsletter we have another piece about actuators. But this time, it’s about choosing the right type of actuator for test systems.
Once testing begins, the system may be expected to cycle continuously for weeks or months while generating and logging consistent, reliable data. This means it is necessary to use an actuation technology which is capable of meeting these performance criterial in your test system design.
In this article from Carl Richter of Kyntronics, he outlines the various test system design factors that need to be taken into account when determining whether to use hydraulic, electromechanical or hybrid actuation technology. Test profiles, control requirements, and existing environmental conditions are just some of the factors he notes that need to be taken into consideration.
What are some of the other applications or systems in which you’re having to determine whether to use a fluid power, electromechanical or hybrid actuation solution? What tips would you offer for determining which actuation technology to use? Want to share your thoughts on these or other topics?
