There are several types of electric motors that can be used in electric vehicles. Axial flux motors are one such type increasingly being used in construction equipment, rail and a wide range of other applications.
As our top story in today’s newsletter explains, axial flux motors are power dense and energy efficient while offering a compact design that enables them to more easily fit into space-constrained applications. These features also aid their ability to electrify the hydraulics that will still be required in many vehicles and machines. Chris Pearce, director, advanced engineering development at Turntide Technologies, explained to me that this is because axial flux motors can provide the power necessary to drive hydraulic pumps at the speed and torque required in many applications while offering a small form factor for easier integration.
