Hydraulic pumps are a critical component in many applications, including aircraft such as helicopters and commercial airplanes. Their continued importance to the operation of aircraft, even as electrification slowly makes its way into the industry, is expected to drive growth for hydraulic pumps in the coming years.
As Stratview Research outlines in our lead story in today’s newsletter, the global aircraft hydraulic pump market is projected to growth 3.5% due to ongoing expansion of global air travel, airlines continuing to increase their fleet sizes and heightened defense procurements in various parts of the world. This is driving the need for more aircraft and thus the hydraulic pumps — which account for over half of the total pumps used on these machines — necessary for their operation.
Today’s newsletter also includes several pieces offering insight into the many technological trends shaping fluid power and its customer markets. Another piece focused on pump technology is my discussion with Jeff Shaffer, Sales Director, Process Manufacturing, Industrial Division at Graco, about the rising adoption of electric pumps in various industrial applications. Efforts to reduce energy consumption, a factor influencing design decisions in many sectors today, is a key driver he noted but that does not mean pneumatic pumps are going away. Pneumatic pump technology still meets the performance requirements of many applications while offering ease of use and other benefits.
Other pieces of note in today’s newsletter is our look at the differences between mobile and industrial fluid power technology needs based on the design trends driving those markets as well as a review of the trends expected to influence the mobile equipment market from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM).
