Electromechanical screw-type actuators have traditionally been the technology of choice for low-force industrial automation applications. But as author Carl Richter of Kyntronics points out in today’s lead piece, more demanding production environments are causing machine builders to re-evaluate the linear actuation technologies employed in low-force applications.
As he discusses in the piece, both hydraulic and electromechanical options have their benefits, but many manufacturers are turning to hybrid linear actuators. By combining the best of both actuation types, these devices are able to meet many of the requirements of today’s low-force applications such as servo control, a compact design and energy-efficient operation.
