Today is the first day of CONEXPO 2026 which means a ton of new equipment launches and other technology introductions — including several from fluid power and other motion control related companies.
One such example is Husco which plans to unveil four new components at this year’s show, including its recently announced GenSteer steer-by-wire system. As Ben Holter, Product Director at Husco, discussed with me in our interview leading off today’s newsletter, this system came from a need the company saw in the industry — the ability to employ steer-by-wire in mobile equipment applications without the cost and complexity typically involved.
He explained that these systems usually require several electronic controllers, sensors and other components to ensure safety but that adds design cost and complexity. With the Husco system, the machine operator takes over if a fault occurs, eliminating the need for additional componentry.
Holter and others I’ve spoken to are seeing growing interest in steer-by-wire and other by-wire technologies from machine OEMs who want to provide customers with an improved operating experience. These technologies are also key to implementing automation, an increasingly important feature to overcome labor challenges in the construction industry.
Other new technologies from the fluid power industry on display at CONEXPO 2026, and highlighted in today’s newsletter, include HYDAC’s newest hydraulic filtration technology and a position sensor from Leggett & Platt Hydraulics that can easily be installed into hydraulic cylinders.
Stay tuned for the rest of this week’s CONEXPO newsletters to learn about new technologies launched at the show and trends on display. You can also visit our CONEXPO 2026 page to read all of our content related to the event.
