The debate over whether to use fluid power or electric actuation technology is an ongoing one. Electric actuators are often considered to be the more efficient option, but the power density of hydraulics and speed of pneumatics, among other benefits, continue to make them the preferred choice in many applications.
And in some applications, the best option is bringing together the best of both fluid power and electric actuation. As our lead story in today’s newsletter discusses, hybrid linear actuators which combine the best elements of electromechanical (aka electric) actuators and traditional hydraulics are meeting the performance requirements of industrial machinery such as presses. These actuators integrate the power of hydraulics with the precision of electric control, aiding their ability to provide the precision, repeatability and force desired in press and other machinery applications.
How have you seen the debate between electromechanical and fluid power actuators unfold? Do you expect to see greater uptake of hydraulic and pneumatic alternatives in the year ahead, or have other predictions about the trends and technologies that will shape the industry in 2026?
