Technology development can take many forms, from brand new component designs to the creation of replacement parts no longer available from the original manufacturer. The latter is the focus of our top piece in today’s newsletter. In it, hydraulic service and repair specialist Apex Hydraulics offers a look at the large hydraulic cylinder it created for a forging press customer whose machine was still in operation after 70 years, but the OEM was no longer in business, making it difficult to replace the press’ failing main cylinder piston rod.
Because of this and the specialized nature of the huge hydraulic cylinders that make up the body of the force for the press, these cylinders are not held in stock anywhere and thus need to be manufactured specifically for the forging press — which is what Apex Hydraulics was able to do for its customer.
