At the beginning of October, I had the opportunity to attend The Battery Show and EV Tech Expo for the first time in a few years, and wow has that show grown. Now held in downtown Detroit because the event has gotten so large, there was no shortage of battery and electric vehicle technologies on display — from battery systems and materials to automated production systems.
Several fluid power companies were in attendance to showcase how their technologies can not only be used as part of electric vehicle (EV) systems but also for the production of batteries and other components. These companies’ presence at the show helped demonstrate the opportunities which exist in the battery and broader electric vehicle market.
This was also the intent of having this month’s newsletter focused on batteries. Electrification uptake continues to grow, necessitating new developments in battery systems and other related technologies. Our lead story highlights some of these recent developments, as well as the involvement of fluid power companies in the sector. Creation of efficient hydraulic components, for instance, is necessary to reduce power draw from batteries and thus ensure longer operating times.
Other highlights in this month’s newsletter include insights from my trip to The Battery Show 2025, the importance of software and communication protocols to ensuring EV safety, as well as a look at the benefits solid-state battery technology could provide in the future.
How are you seeing hydraulics and pneumatics being utilized in the battery and larger EV space? What developments do you see coming in the future to meet electrification requirements? Do you anticipate continued opportunities in the electrification sector? Reach out to me any time at [email protected] to let me know your thoughts on these or any other subjects you’d like to discuss.
