Bauma 2013 puts a spotlight on efficiency

• Mining, Extraction and Processing of Raw Materials — Machines for extraction of raw materials and for mining; handling of raw materials; and mineral processing.

• All Around Construction Sites— construction vehicles, machines, equipment, tools and special systems; lifting appliances and conveyors; handling and processing concrete and mortar; form work and scaffolding; and site installations.

• Component and Service Suppliers — Transmission engineering, fluid power technology and power generation units; accessories and wear parts; services; test, measurement and process control engineering; communication and navigation; and job safety.

• Production of Building Materials— Machines and systems and building material handling and packaging.

Fuel-efficient hydraulics featured
In addition to partnering with Indonesia and once again putting a focus on mining, the event will highlight two popular topics — energy efficiency and fuel savings in construction equipment. New solutions to these challenges will be presented in all four major segments, including a look at Caterpillar’s new hydraulic hybrid excavator, which uses energy captured in accumulators during swing acceleration. Liebherr will also have its HS 8300 HD Duty Cycle Crawler Crane on hand, which also features a hydraulic hybrid drive system.

Hamm AG of Germany, part of the Wirtgen Group, will also showcase its articulated tandem rollers that meet EU IV/Tier 4f standards. The HD+ 70i and HD+ 80i rollers feature two separate controlled ventilators that cool the charge air, hydraulic oil and engine cooling fluid.

Finally, Doosan Construction Equipment offers two new heavy-duty excavators (DX490LC-3 model, with an operating weight of 49 ton, and the DX530LC-3, weighing 52 ton) that feature lower fuel consumption, thanks in part to improved cooling, a display to inform the driver about fuel consumption, and optimized main control valves, which reduce energy losses and deliver higher efficiency. In addition, extra sensors are fitted to ensure better electronic control of the pumps, the engine and the main control valve. As a result, throughput, pressure and torque can all be precisely adjusted to suit the individual operating requirements.
